About us

Windmill Lane Recording Studios was born out of a passion for music and the desire to create a world-class production facility in Dublin.

Opened by Brian Masterson and James Morris in 1978, the studios were originally located on Windmill Lane, where the buildings came to be known for the graffiti painted on them by U2 fans from all over the world.

From rock to rap, from AC/DC to 50 Cent, global superstars as well as local breakouts come to record at what we’ve built into the premier audio production house in Ireland and one of the most renowned in the world. Housed today in an iconic Art Deco building on Ringsend Road, the studio stands out as much for what you will discover inside. Comprising three state-of-the-art recording studios, our largest studio can accommodate an 80-piece orchestra.

Our Building

Our home is something unique in Dublin

Housed today in an iconic Art Deco building on Ringsend Road, the studio stands out as much for what you will discover inside. Comprising three state-of-the-art recording studios, our largest studio can accommodate an 80-piece orchestra.

Located in the docklands of Dublin, the building Windmill Lane Recording Studios has called home since 1990 is truly unique. Standing out from the glass and steel monoliths of the tech giants surrounding it, No.20 Ringsend Road was once the electrical power station for the tramline depot (now Ringsend bus station next door) and is an Art Deco protected structure.

What people are saying about us

A real pleasure to see inside a world class recording studio. The guide was great and took time to answer all questions. We walked from Trinity College, Dublin to the Studio which took us about 30 minutes. We arrived a few minutes early which gave us time to read about the memorabilia hanging on the walls.

Pretty awesome experience! You’ll get an understanding of how everything works, get to hear stories and see the studio where countless artists have recorded their songs (The Cranberries, The Rolling Stones, Ed Sheeran, Lady Gaga, U2…)

I was going because my dauther wanted to go – I agree to keep her company. Had no idea about recording or wasnt much into music. But that tour has exceeded my expectations – It was great day and I think I would like to visit again!

Excellent experience (Must See) We went to Windmill Studios this weekend for our daughter’s 16th Birthday. From entering the door right through the tour we were made feel so welcome. The overall tour was so engaging and fun, so many iconic artists have recorded in this historic building.

Recently brought a group of TY students to the studio tour and can’t recommend it enough! Niall was excellent at making all aspects of the tour accessible to both music and non music students. The tour was very interactive and one student had the trip highlight of playing the studio’s Steinway piano. Will definitely be making this an annual trip in our school calendar.

A Dublin ‘Must Do’! We visited the studio not really knowing what to expect but we had our eyes (and ears) opened by how many world renowned artists had recorded there. We also found that a lot of film scores and movie and video scenes had been filmed inside the building. The tour covers all areas of the recording process and we would definitely recommend a visit.

Mind blown. Cannot recommend a tour of Windmill Lane (the home of cool in Dublin in my opinion) highly enough. Just to walk the halls and spend time in studios where legends recorded iconic grammy award winning albums is surely an unparalleled thrill for any music fan. The gang are so welcoming and informative it was an exhilarating experience from beginning to end.
100000% recommend 🙂
